Abstract: "Kalandia - a Checkpoint's Story" segue le attività di un piccolo checkpoint nel nord di Gerusalemme, istituito come presidio di controllo temporaneo nel 2001 in risposta ad un allarme di attacco terroristico. Nell'arco di 6 anni Neta Efrony, regista e membro di MachsomWatch (Checkpoints Watch), ha documentato i modi in cui un checkpoint temporaneo, situato nel cuore dell'area urbana di Gerusalemme Est, sia cresciuto e si sia ampliato, fino a diventare un presidio permanente. Oggi è un enorme terminale, uno dei più grandi checkpoint militari israeliani nella Cisgiordania occupata. Si integra in quella che viene chiamata "Jerusalem Envelope" come parte del Muro che separa Ramallah dai villaggi palestinesi circostanti, che furono annessi alla città nel 1967. Dal gennaio 2002, la telecamera ha accompagnato la vita quotidiana al checkpoint nello spirito del cinéma vérité. Gerusalemme Est è sempre stata il centro della vita degli abitanti della Cisgiordania. Il checkpoint di Kalandia non separa gli arabi dagli ebrei; separa i palestinesi dai palestinesi.
"Kalandia - a Checkpoint's Story" follows the evolvement of a small checkpoint in Northern Jerusalem which was established as a temporary check-point in 2001, in response to a terrorist attack alert. Over a span of 6 years Neta Efrony, a filmmaker and a member of MachsomWatch (Checkpoints Watch), documented the ways in which a temporary checkpoint, situated in the heart of East Jerusalem's urban area, grew and expanded into becoming a permanent check-point. Nowadays, it is a massive terminal and one of the largest Israeli military checkpoints in the occupied West Bank. It integrates into the "Jerusalem Envelope" as part of the Wall that separates Ramallah from the surrounding Palestinian villages that were annexed to the city in 1967. Since January 2002, the camera has accompanied daily life at the checkpoint in the spirit of Cinéma Vérité. East Jerusalem was always the centre of life for the residents of the West Bank. The Kalandia checkpoint does not separate between Arabs and Jews; it separates between Palestinians and Palestinians
