Abstract: La spedizione Santo 2006, venuta ad inventariare la biodiversità dell'isola Santo, nell'arcipelago delle Vanuatu, è appena partita. Durante il periodo di soggiorno sull'isola, 60 ricercatori di diversi paesi si sono installati in un accampamento costruito in mezzo alla boscaglia, vicino al sito del loro pallone aerostatico (una nuova "zattera delle cime"). Gli abitanti di questa zona remota hanno costruito il campo ed hanno lavorato in qualità di guide, portatori o cuochi e hanno anche venduto i loro prodotti artigianali agli scienziati. Due mesi dopo, gli abitanti del villaggio ricordano l'evento. Esprimono con franchezza i loro sentimenti nel loro coinvolgimento in questo progetto e su ciò che hanno vissuto: dopo aver firmato un contratto sommario arrivano gli scienziati, la vita al campo, poi la partenza improvvisa della spedizione. Non importa se le tracce materiali di questo evento siano ancora visibili o se siano rimasti solo i ricordi, tutti questi momenti fugaci sono ora integrati nella storia locale, pronti per essere tramandati e interpretati.
The Santo 2006 expedition that came to inventory the biodiversity of Santo island in Vanuatu has just left. During their stay, 60 researchers from different countries settled in a camp built in the middle bush, very close to the site of their balloon (a new "Raft of the summits"). The villagers of this remote area built this camp but also worked as guide, loaders, or cook and sold their home product to the scientists. Two months later, the villagers remember this event. They frankly express their feelings about their involvement in this project and what they experienced: after signing a summary contract, the scientists arrive, life in the camp, then the sudden departure of the expedition. It doesn’t matter if a material trace of this event is still visible or if only memories left, all these fleeting times are now integrate into local history, ready to be pass on, and interpret.
