Abstract: A Tokyo, otto musicisti s’incontrano intorno ad un tavolo. Illuminati da una luce espressionistica che contrasta fortemente le fisionomie, parlano del loro lavoro, della loro ispirazione, delle simbiosi che le loro performance musicali hanno con le forme della città. L’ambiente, inquadrato da immagini potentemente plastiche, sembra essere la fonte delle composizioni che i musicisti eseguono dal vivo, nel corpo stesso dei materiali urbanistici, quando questi hanno smesso di essere design e sono diventati detriti. La musica abbandona così il suo carattere di divertimento auditivo per diventare un esperimento e un monito. Nel primo caso il film mostra come l’uso diverso di strumenti tradizionali produca nuovi stimoli sonori, non sempre gradevoli, ma sicuramente intriganti. Nel secondo indica come i suoni di questa modernità tecnologica siano il frutto di un presente post-apocalittico e alienato. "Piuttosto che come un film sulla musica, noi abbiamo concepito "We Don’t Care About Music Anyway..." come un film sul suono e sulla sua percezione. Un elogio alla creazione bruta e spontanea, al di qua dei codici e dell’industria, la creazione come mezzo animale di esprimere una collera altrimenti indicibile" (C. Dupire, G. Kuentz).
In Tokyo, eight musicians gather at a table. Illumined by an expressionistic light that starkly contrasts with their physiognomies, they talk about their work, their inspirations, the connection between their musical performances and the shapes of the city. The ambience, captured by extremely artificial images, seems to be the very source of the musicians’ live performance compositions, in the same vein of urban junk, when things cease being designs and become detritus. The music abandons its playful quality and becomes an experiment and a warning. Firstly, the film demonstrates how the different handling of traditional instruments produces new sound stimuli, not always pleasurable but certainly intriguing. Secondly, it notes how the sounds of such modern technology are the fruit of a post-apocalyptic and alienated present day. "We conceived of "We Don’t Care About Music Anyway..." as a film about music, as a film about sound and the perception of sound. It’s an ode to rough and spontaneous creation, beyond rules and industry, creation as an animal means to express an otherwise inexpressible rage" (C. Dupire, G. Kuentz).
