Abstract: Vengono dall'Afghanistan, dall'Irak, dal Kurdistan, dal Sudan, dalla Palestina. Sono fuggiti da guerre, massacri, insicurezza e povertà estrema. Sei anni dopo la chiusura del centro della Croce Rossa di Sangatte, decisa da Nicolas Sarkozy, sono ancora numerosi nel tentativo di raggiungere la Gran Bretagna. Abbandonati alle intemperie, privati di tutto, compresa la propria identità, di cui cercano di cancellare le impronte anche dal proprio corpo, vessati dalla polizia, vagano per le strade di Calais. Sopravvivono grazie alle associazioni locali di volontari che li sfamano. Il film non segue nessuno di loro in particolare, né commenta o intervista nessuno di loro. Mostra semplicemente come sopravvivono a Calais. Il silenzio del film trasmette un'eco speciale ad ogni immagine, ogni volto, ogni gesto che esprime la sofferenza, la stanchezza, l'angoscia, ma anche la gioia di vivere, l'incredibile vitalità, il senso dell'umorismo, le speranze.
They come from Afghanistan, Irak, Kurdistan, Sudan, Palestine. They have fled wars, massacres, insecurity and extreme poverty. Six years after the closing down of Sangatte Red Cross center, decided par Nicolas Sarkozy, they are still as numerous attempting to reach Great Britain. Abandoned to the harshness of the weather, deprived of everything including their own identity whose prints they try to erase even from their own bodies, harassed by the police, they wander through the streets in Calais. They survive thanks to local associations of volunteers who feed them. The film doesn't follow any of them particularly nor does it comment on or interview any of them. It simply shows how they survive in Calais. The silence of the film conveys a special echo to each image, each face, each gesture which express the suffering, the exhaustion, the anguish, but also the joy of living, the incredible vitality, the sense of humour, the hopes.
