Abstract: Attraverso il destino di due fa'afafine (travestiti) samoani, il film evoca una certa distanza dal mondo, tra contemplazione e rinuncia. Questo atteggiamento si trova in corrispondenza con quello, enigmatico, di una giovane ragazza che vive all'estremità di un villaggio remoto. Il regista ci invita qui a una riscoperta impressionista dell'antico mito della metamorfosi di Dafne nel contesto polinesiano.
Through the fate of two Samoan fa’afafine («transvestites»), the film evokes a certain distance to the world, between contemplation and renouncement. This attitude finds itself in correspondance with that, enigmatic, of a young girl who lives at the end of a remote village. The directors invites us here to an impressionistic rediscovery of the ancient myth of Daphne’s metamorphosis in the polynesian context.
