Abstract: Una storia surreale che esplora la banale realtà degli aiuti umanitari. Un anno dopo la tragedia causata dallo tsunami, in un piccolo villaggio di pescatori nello Sri Lanka, tre membri di un'organizzazione umanitaria occidentale cercano di riabilitare le imprese locali utilizzando un approccio di microcredito - prestito. Danny, il francese, entusiasta ma indeciso; Campbell, l'americano, che nonostante parli la lingua locale, pensa ancora in termini di redditività e competitività; e Pradeep, l'interprete locale, l'unico che parla inglese nel villaggio. Il desiderio di aiutare è grande, il denaro è scarso. I 25.000 dollari di beneficenza devono essere impiegati per aiutare centinaia di persone del posto. A surrealistic story exploring the banal reality of humanitarian aid. A year after the tsunami tragedy, in a small fishing village in Sri Lanka, three members of a Western humanitarian organization are trying to rehabilitate local businesses by using a micro-credit-loan approach. Danny, the Frenchman, enthusiastic but indecisive; Campbell, the American, who despite speaking the local language, still thinks in terms of profitability and competitiveness; and Pradeep, the only English interpreter in the village. The desire to help is great, the money is scarce. The 25,000 goodwill dollars need to be stretched to help hundreds of local people. This is where an absurd journey begins a story in which noble intentions dissolve into endless haggling, and good feelings get lost in the flood; a story in which compassion gives way to alienation, trust turns into a bureaucratic search for lies, and all the altruism sinks into the mire of facts. The camera, insists on following the events and recording the action, without any particular aim. The result is a film in which the declaration is the reality, with all its needs. The need to find meaning, the need to give, and above all – the need to survive. Good guys and bad guys, white men and natives, human nature with all its implications.
