Abstract: "A Topography of Memory"è una riflessione su come le politiche pubbliche di tutto il mondo hanno affrontato il passato, ovvero come la memoria collettiva si confronta con il suo passato e i miti che lo circondano. Cosa si dovrebbe fare per garantire che si dia spazio a voci e memorie diverse? Per rispondere a questa domanda, il film esamina i modelli in Europa, Africa e America che hanno, oppure non hanno, cercato di affrontare il passato in modi diversi: testimoniando, confessando i crimini, portando i colpevoli davanti alla giustizia, epurando l'amministrazione pubblica, documentando il passato, commemorando gli eventi.
"A Topography of Memory" is a reflection on how public policies around the world have dealt with the past, that is, how collective memory comes to turns with its past and the myths surrounding it. What should be done to ensure there is space for a host of different voices and memories? To answer this question, the film looks at models in Europe, Africa and America that have, or have not, tried to deal with their past in different ways: bearing witness, confessing to crimes, bringing the guilty to justice, purging public administration, documenting the past, commemorating events.
