Abstract: I destini paralleli di due giovani curdi esiliati a Istanbul. Rodi utilizza la fotografia e il cinema documentari per raccontare il suo popolo, per preservare e mantenere viva la sua cultura ancestrale. Deniz lotta per cancellare le restrizioni culturali interne che segregano le donne. È tornata in famiglia dopo sei anni passati in Iraq nel campo del PKK, il partito curdo indipendente. Rodi e Deniz, travolti dal tumulto della storia non scritta del popolo curdo, devono affrontare il loro complesso passato. Sono entrambi, in modo diverso, alla ricerca di un'identità peculiare e contemporanea. Anche se utilizzano percorsi diversi, si trovano ad affrontare le stesse domande: cosa significa essere curdi? Come ci si può costruire individualmente con due background culturali? Come è possibile esistere pur sentendosi un corpo estraneo nella società in cui viviamo?
The parallel destinies of two young Kurds exiled in Istanbul. Rhodes uses photography and documentary film to tell the story of its people, to preserve and keep alive its ancestral culture. Deniz struggles to erase internal cultural restrictions that segregate women. She returned to her family after six years in Iraq in the camp of the PKK, the independent Kurdish party. Rhodes and Deniz, swept up in the turmoil of the unwritten history of the Kurdish people, must confront their complex past. They are both, in different ways, searching for a peculiar and contemporary identity. Although they use different paths, they face the same questions: what does it mean to be Kurdish? How can one construct oneself individually from two cultural backgrounds? How is it possible to exist while feeling like a foreign body in the society we live in?
