Abstract: "The Other Side of Istanbul" offre uno sguardo inedito sulla vita gay in Turchia e sulle difficoltà dell'auto-scoperta omosessuale in una società omofoba dove gli orientamenti sessuali vengono tenuti nascosti, repressi o accolti con ostilità. Il film indaga su come i membri della comunità LGBT turca difendono i propri diritti con più sicurezza man mano che l'accessibilità alle informazioni attraverso i nuovi media si espande, mentre adottano stili di vita e atteggiamenti più occidentali, mentre il dibattito sull'ammissione della Turchia all'Unione Europea si fa più caldo.
"The Other Side of Istanbul" offers a fresh look at gay life in Turkey and the difficulties of homosexual self-discovery in a homophobic society where sexual orientations are kept hidden, repressed or met with hostility. The film explores how members of Turkey's LGBT community defend their rights more confidently as accessibility to information through new media expands, while adopting more Western lifestyles and attitudes as the debate over Turkey's admission to the European Union heats up.
