Abstract: "A New Kind of Listening"è la storia di un regista visionario, di un gruppo teatrale unico nel suo genere e di un giovane che non poteva parlare, ma che ha trovato la voce che aveva cercato per tutta la vita. Il film ci porta all'interno del lavoro creativo del "Community Inclusive Theater Group" mentre il regista Richard Reho ispira i membri del cast, alcuni con disabilità e incapaci di parlare, a diventare scrittori, attori e ballerini in una performance originale e collaborativa. Nel processo, Chris Mueller-Medlicott, che non ha mai pronunciato una parola ed è stato erroneamente etichettato come ritardato mentale, sfocia in una sorprendente espressività. Il gruppo teatrale dimostra come un piccolo progetto artistico comunitario abbia il potere di trasformare la vita. "A New Kind of Listening" is the story of a visionary director, a unique theatre group and a young man who could not speak, but found the voice he had been searching for all his life. The film takes us inside the creative work of the "Community Inclusive Theater Group" as director Richard Reho inspires the cast members, some with disabilities and unable to speak, to become writers, actors and dancers in an original and collaborative performance. In the process, Chris Mueller-Medlicott, who has never spoken a word and has been wrongly labelled mentally retarded, bursts into astonishing expressiveness. The theatre group demonstrates how a small community art project has the power to transform lives. Using rehearsal footage, synthesised voice recordings of Chris' words, archival home videos and interviews with cast members, the film is an extraordinary record of events documented over the course of a year, culminating in the group's triumphant performance of 'The Song that Greens the Earth'.
