Abstract: L'ultimo film di finzione dello scrittore e regista nominato al Tony Award, Conor McPherson, è un dramma atmosferico squisito e rassicurante sulla qualità redentrice dell'amore. The latest fictional film from Tony Award-nominated writer and director Conor McPherson is an exquisite and reassuring atmospheric drama about the redemptive quality of love. Amid lush hills and crumbling stone abbeys, the waterlogged town of Cobh hosts a chaotic annual literary festival. Widower Michael (played by Ciarán Hinds) is adjusting to his new role as sole caretaker of his two children. When he volunteers as a chaperone at the festival, chance leads him to supernatural novelist Lena ("Iben Hjejle", "High Fidelity"). He's attracted to her, but finds himself competing for her attention with internationally acclaimed author Nicholas (Aidan Quinn), also in town to promote his latest bestseller and retrieve the girl he can't get out of his head. Writing the screenplay with Irish playwright Billy Roche, McPherson has crafted a film that engages the viewer with its attention to detail. His precise direction, combined with Ivan McCullough's dynamic cinematography, evokes the emotion behind each scene. McPherson's special relationship with the actors is evident on screen as the three leads deliver insightful performances. Hinds, in particular, reflects the film's masterful use of subtleties: his presence grows as the unique and compelling story unfolds.
