Abstract: Nel 1958, Frits Sahertian, di 6 anni, è testimone di una sparatoria terrificante, sei molucchesi vengono uccisi dalle forze di polizia olandesi nella caserma delle Molucche a Westkapelle, un villaggio nel sud dell'Olanda. Questo evento lo segnerà per il resto della sua vita. Frits arrivò nei Paesi Bassi nel 1952, la sua famiglia faceva parte di un gruppo di 1.200 uomini di servizio molucchesi le cui famiglie erano state costrette a lasciare l'Indonesia dopo l'indipendenza dai Paesi Bassi. I militari molucchesi facevano parte dell'esercito olandese di occupazione in Indonesia. Al loro arrivo nei Paesi Bassi i servitori furono congedati dall'esercito e, invece del salario dell'esercito, ricevettero una paghetta. Le caserme sono ora utilizzate per immagazzinare roulotte. Questo è il luogo dove alla fine degli anni '50 fu ospitato un gruppo di molucchesi, questo è il luogo dove avvenne la sparatoria. In 1958, 6-year-old Frits Sahertian witnesses a terrifying shooting, six Moluccans are killed by Dutch police forces in the Moluccan barracks in Westkapelle, a village in the south of Holland. This event would mark him for the rest of his life. Frits arrived in the Netherlands in 1952, his family was part of a group of 1,200 Moluccan service men whose families had been forced to leave Indonesia after independence from the Netherlands. The Moluccan servicemen were part of the Dutch army of occupation in Indonesia. Upon arrival in the Netherlands, the servicemen were discharged from the army and, instead of army wages, received pocket money. On top of that, the promise of housing and food was soon denied. The shooting that took place in Westkapelle was the result of the protest raised by the Moluccans about the treatment they received. The film tries to find out what exactly happened in Westkapelle 50 years ago. The former Moluccan barracks are located at the bottom of the dunes, just outside the village of Westkapelle. The barracks are small red brick buildings around a small square. The carpentry is falling apart and some of the windows have fallen out. The barracks are now used to store caravans. This is the place where a group of Moluccans were housed in the late 1950s, this is where the shooting took place. This shooting was the first violent conflict between the Moluccans and the Dutch government, culminating in the hijacking of a train in De Punt and then another in Wijster in the early 1970s. This protest was orchestrated by the second generation of Moluccans who continued the struggle of their parents and demanded that Holland support the struggle for independence from Indonesia. It is taken for granted that the Moluccans started to use violence as a way to make themselves heard, nobody knew that violence was started by the Dutch government as early as 1958 with the shooting of the parents of these hijackers in Westkapelle.
