Abstract: Dai tempi del profeta Maometto, i fedeli musulmani hanno ascoltato la chiamata del muezzin alla preghiera cinque volte al giorno. Un fenomeno pił recente sono le gare di chiamata alla preghiera che si tengono in Turchia. Ogni anno i muezzin del paese competono tra loro e la loro potente espressivitą dimostra che i muezzin sono un genere molto speciale di artisti. "Muezzin" segue lo svolgimento della competizione e indaga il fenomeno dell'individualitą all'interno della cultura islamica.
Since the time of the Prophet Muhammad, Muslim believers have heard the muezzin's call to prayer five times a day. A more recent phenomenon are the call to prayer competitions held in Turkey. Every year, the country's muezzins compete against each other and their powerful expressiveness proves that muezzins are a very special kind of performers. 'Muezzin' follows the unfolding of the competition and investigates the phenomenon of individuality within Islamic culture.
