Abstract: Woodstock è uno di quegli eventi per cui esiste un 'prima' e un 'dopo'. Il 'prima'è affidato alle parole di Michael Lang, l’ideatore del Festival che, accompagnato da racconti, testimonianze e riprese inedite, rievoca i preparativi del concerto: la scelta del terreno, la risoluzione dei monumentali problemi logistici, gli approvvigionamenti, l’infermeria, il traffico. Per il 'dopo', oltre agli aneddoti di chi può dire con orgoglio: "Io c’ero!", vale la pena di ascoltare Michael Wadleigh, che girò le ore e ore di pellicola che hanno permesso la trasmissione del 'messaggio' alle generazioni future. In mezzo a questo 'prima' e a questo 'dopo' ci sono i «Tre Giorni di Pace e Musica» dell’agosto del 1969. Quando la parola 'pace' aveva il suo peso, in un anno segnato dall’assassinio di Martin Luther King, di Robert Kennedy e dal macello in Vietnam. Quando la parola 'musica' significava un palco irripetibile, affollato da stelle di prima grandezza. Sono passati quaranta anni e il mito è vivo e vegeto: i ragazzi della School of Rock esercitano il loro talento su brani storici e l’oceano di quei giovani corpi – per la prima volta nudi, per la prima volta liberi – continua a suscitare emozione.
Woodstock is one of those major events with a ''before' and an 'after'. The 'before' is entrusted to Michael Lang’s words; as the creator of the Festival, he recalls the preparations for the concert, with the support of tales, testimonies and inedited shooting: the choice for the right soil, the solutions to the massive logistic problems, the provisions, the infirmary, the traffic. As for the 'after', besides the anecdotes of one who can proudly say “I was there!”, it is worth while listening to Michael Wadleigh, who shot many hours of film that allowed 'the message' to be handed down to future generations. Between this 'before' and this 'after' there are the «Three days of Peac & Music» of that August, 1969. A time when the term 'Peace' had a specific importance, in a year marked by the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy, the Vietnam disaster, and when the word 'Music' meant a unique stage, tread by top-grade stars. Forty years have passed and the myth is still alive and kicking: the guys form School of Rock are practicing their talent on all-time pieces and the ocean of those young bodies –naked and free, for the first time- keeps on arousing emotions.
