Abstract: Barra (isola delle Ebridi) non era necessariamente ciò che Marie, originaria di Brno, si aspettava: è venuta nel Regno Unito per lavoro ma è finita su una piccola isola al largo della costa scozzese nel tempestoso Oceano Atlantico. Barra (island of the Hebrides) was not necessarily what Marie, originally from Brno, expected: she came to the UK for work but ended up on a small island off the Scottish coast in the stormy Atlantic Ocean. Now she lives here, on the edge of Europe, and is beginning to feel at home. Her boyfriend, Andrej, doesn't feel the same way and would like to go back. Joan, from London, followed her parents to the Outer Hebrides to run a hotel - without them having any experience in the hotel business. She has left the city behind and on Barra seems to be dealing with a stroke of fate of the kind that happens in novels of many years ago. Iain has worked on the windy pastures of North Uist all his life. Times are hard, his son doesn't want to take over the farm and his father doesn't want to hand it over to his daughter.
