Abstract: Il gatto di razza Van è protagonista di antiche leggende turche che risalgono ai tempi in cui l’uomo ancora non esisteva e la terra era governata dai gatti. Questi animali dagli occhi di colore diseguale sono comuni per le strade di Istanbul, ma esemplari assai belli si possono incontrare anche alle pendici del Monte Ararat, là dove un pastore, un giorno che aveva perso il gregge, posò lo sguardo su uno sperone di roccia sulla vetta del monte. Avvicinandosi, si accorse che si trattava di un’enorme nave incagliata. Fiaba e realtà si incontrano in un film che si concede alla contemplazione del paesaggio e all’ascolto del silenzio. “Nel film la mia intenzione è di proporre una geografia immaginaria, nella quale uomini, animali e paesaggi interagiscano gli uni con gli altri sotto il segno della poesia. Secondo me il paesaggio è lo spazio privilegiato dove il sacro si manifesta. Il film funziona come un viaggio al tempo stesso interiore ed esteriore, in cui le immagini sostituiscono le parole”. (Y. The Van Cat is a major figure of ancient Turkish lore that dates back to a time before man when the earth was governed by cats. These animals with different colored eyes are commonly found in the streets of Istanbul, but you can also find beautiful examples of them on Mount Ararat, that place where one day a shepherd who had lost his flock lifted his gaze to see a spur of rocks at the top of the mountain. As he approached, he realized it was an enormous, stranded boat. Fable and reality meet in a film that yields to the contemplation of landscapes and the sound of silence. “For this film, my intention is to propose an imaginary geography in which animals, landscape and mankind interact with one another in the breath of poetry. To my point of view, landscape remains the privileged space where the sacred manifests itself. The film works like a journey between interiority and exteriority in which images replace words.” (Y.
