Abstract: "A Good Man" racconta la storia di un contadino australiano in difficoltà, di sua moglie tetraplegica, del loro bambino appena nato e del loro progetto di aprire un bordello in una piccola città di campagna. Chris Rohrlach non è il tipico allevatore di pecore australiano. Disposto a provare qualsiasi cosa pur di mantenere la moglie Rachel fuori dall'assistenza a lungo termine, decide di aprire un bordello. Niente ha mai impedito a Chris e Rachel di fare quello che volevano, quindi l'indignazione della comunità non li disturba minimamente. Tetraplegica con problemi neurologici per tutti i 14 anni di matrimonio, Rachel è per Chris l'amore della sua vita. Mentre la videocamera riprende la costruzione e l'inaugurazione del miglior bordello dell'outback, il film espone la tensione tra gli sforzi indomabili di Chris per tenere a galla la sua famiglia e i desideri di Rachel che deve affidarsi ad altri per tradurre i suoi movimenti oculari in parole. "A Good Man" tells the story of a struggling Australian farmer, his quadriplegic wife, their newborn child and their plan to open a brothel in a small country town. Chris Rohrlach is not your typical Australian sheep farmer. Willing to try anything to keep his wife Rachel out of long-term care, he decides to open a brothel. Nothing ever stopped Chris and Rachel from doing what they wanted to do, so the community's outrage doesn't bother them in the slightest. A quadriplegic with neurological problems for the entire 14 years of their marriage, Rachel is for Chris the love of his life. As the camera pans over the construction and opening of the best brothel in the outback, the film exposes the tension between Chris' indomitable efforts to keep his family afloat and Rachel's desires to rely on others to translate her eye movements into words. Moving and thought-provoking, the film overturns preconceptions about disability and macho male stereotypes. A quadriplegic with neurological impairment for all of their 14 married years, Rachel is still Rachel to Chris, and the love of his life. As the camera captures the construction and grand opening of the best little whorehouse in the outback, the film exposes tension between Chris' indomitable plans to keep his family afloat and Rachel's own wishes. Reliant on others to translate her eye movements into words, the film creates a novel friction between Rachel's opaque desires and their secondhand expression. Moving, thought provoking and surprisingly funny, "A Good Man" turns preconceptions about disability and macho male stereotypes upside down.
