Abstract: Thupten Tenzin non solo è presidente della comunità tibetana in Italia e medico specializzato in medicina occidentale, è anche un giovane rifugiato politico la cui storia è comune a quella di molti ragazzi venuti dall’India o fuggiti dal Tibet. Attraverso i suoi racconti conosciamo la vita della comunità in Italia, le interrelazioni tra i tibetani e i loro rapporti con gli italiani. Le storie che il film raccoglie sono quelle di un gruppo umano dalla straordinaria e complessa identità che, pur facendo tesoro della cultura tibetana delle origini, non rifiuta ma anzi, si integra con la società occidentale che la ospita. Ai nostri occhi queste storie si presentano come un ricco intreccio di vicende personali, questioni politiche e tradizioni religiose, in un mix affascinante di straordinario interesse storico culturale. In particolare il documentario descrive la cultura tibetana attraverso le danze, la musica e i temi legati alla spiritualità buddista, ma pone anche l’attenzione sulla medicina tradizionale tibetana e il recente interesse della ricerca scientifica verso questo ambito della sapienza orientale. Un finale di grande intensità vede protagonista il Dalai Lama che, durante uno dei suoi ultimi viaggi in Italia, ha concesso agli autori un’intervista esclusiva e ha lasciato un messaggio a tutte le comunità tibetane sparse nel mondo.
Thupten Tenzin is not only the president of the Tibetan community in Italy and a doctor specialised in Western medicine, he is also a young political refugee whose story is common to many young people who have come from India or fled Tibet. Through his stories we learn about the life of the community in Italy, the interrelationships between Tibetans and their relations with Italians. The stories collected in the film are those of a human group with an extraordinary and complex identity which, while treasuring the Tibetan culture of its origins, does not reject but rather integrates with the western society that hosts it. To our eyes these stories appear as a rich interweaving of personal events, political issues and religious traditions, in a fascinating mix of extraordinary historical and cultural interest. In particular, the documentary describes Tibetan culture through its dances, music and themes linked to Buddhist spirituality, but also draws attention to traditional Tibetan medicine and the recent interest of scientific research in this area of oriental wisdom. The Dalai Lama, who granted the authors an exclusive interview during one of his last trips to Italy and left a message for all the Tibetan communities around the world, is the protagonist of an intense finale.
