Abstract: Tra il primo gennaio 1969 e il 31 dicembre 1987, ci furono in Italia 14.591 atti di violenza con motivazione politica, che causarono 491 morti e 1.181 feriti. Numeri che dicono con chiarezza come, in quei diciannove anni, in Italia si combatté una vera e propria guerra. All’interno di questa guerra si colloca l’evento più tragico della storia della Repubblica italiana: il rapimento e l’uccisione di Aldo Moro e la strage della sua scorta. Un evento che non ha eguali nella storia contemporanea: capi di Stato e uomini politici di primo piano sono stati assassinati, negli Stati Uniti avvenne l’assassinio di John F. Kennedy, ma non s’è mai verificato che uno degli uomini politici più importanti di uno Stato venga rapito, tenuto prigioniero per cinquantacinque giorni (dal 16 marzo al 9 maggio 1978) nella sua capitale e alla fine venga ucciso. A poco più di trent’anni di distanza da quel tragico evento, la coscienza collettiva sembra essersi dimenticata di tutto questo: cosa sanno, oggi, le nuove generazioni di quei fatti? Chi è disposto ancora a parlarne? Soprattutto, è la voce dei familiari delle vittime, principalmente di quelle vittime il cui nome non è famoso e che, in genere vengono genericamente menzionate come “uomini della scorta”, come se non avessero nemmeno un nome, che è stata dimenticata perché, spesso, non è mai stata nemmeno ascoltata. Sembra che su quell’evento si sia deciso di far calare il velo dell’oblio. Eppure ancora molti sono i misteri che lo circondano. Come facevano le Brigate rosse a sapere il luogo preciso in cui Moro sarebbe passato la mattina del 16 marzo 1978? Perché, anziché fuggire rapidamente, i terroristi si attardarono a finire tutti gli uomini della scorta con un colpo di grazia? Cosa faceva un ufficiale dei servizi segreti quella mattina sul luogo dell’agguato? Perché le Brigate rosse collocano il loro covo in uno stabile dove ben 24 appartamenti sono riconducibili ai servizi segreti? In occasione del trentunesimo anniversario della strage di via Fani e dell’assassinio dell’on. Aldo Moro, questo film documentario intende contribuire a far conoscere alle nuove generazioni che non hanno vissuto quegli anni e a far ricordare a quelli che c’erano, ciò che accadde nel cuore di Roma il 16 marzo 1978, quello che seguì nel corso di 55 giorni fino al rinvenimento del cadavere di Moro la mattina del 9 maggio. Il documentario non dà risposte che, finora, nemmeno la Magistratura ha saputo dare, ma solleva tutti i dubbi e le domande che attendono ancora una risposta, nella convinzione che ogni passo in più verso la verità è un contributo al rafforzamento della democrazia.
Between January 1, 1969 and December 31, 1987, there were 14,591 politically motivated acts of violence in Italy, which left 491 dead and 1,181 injured. These numbers clearly show that in those nineteen years, a real war was fought in Italy. Within this war, there was the most tragic event in the history of the Italian Republic: the kidnapping and killing of Aldo Moro and the slaughter of his escort. An event that has no equal in contemporary history: heads of state and leading politicians have been assassinated, the United States has had the assassination of John F. Kennedy, but it has never happened that one of the most important politicians of a state is kidnapped, held prisoner for fifty-five days (from March 16 to May 9, 1978) in its capital and finally killed. A little more than thirty years after that tragic event, the collective conscience seems to have forgotten all about it: what do the new generations know today about those events? Who is still willing to talk about it? Above all, it is the voice of the families of the victims, mainly of those victims whose names are not famous and who are usually generically referred to as ""men of the escort"", as if they did not even have a name, that has been forgotten because, often, it has never even been heard. It seems that on that event it has been decided to let the veil of oblivion fall. And yet there are still many mysteries surrounding it. How did the Red Brigades know the precise place where Moro would have passed on the morning of March 16, 1978? Why, instead of fleeing quickly, did the terrorists delay in finishing off all the men in their escort with a coup de grace? What was an intelligence officer doing that morning at the scene of the ambush? Why did the Red Brigades set up their hideout in a building where as many as 24 apartments can be traced back to the secret services? On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Via Fani massacre and of the assassination of Aldo Moro, this documentary film intends to contribute to making known to the new generations who did not live through those years and to making those who 'were there' remember what happened in the heart of Rome on March 16, 1978, what followed over the course of 55 days until Moro's body was found on the morning of May 9. The documentary does not give answers that, up to now, not even the Magistracy has been able to give, but it raises all the doubts and questions that are still waiting to be answered, in the conviction that every additional step towards the truth is a contribution to the strengthening of democracy.
