Abstract: Estate in Siberia. Durante alcuni brevi mesi, le vaste e tetre distese di neve e l'oscurità deprimente lasciano il posto al verde allegro e alla luce soffusa. Da qualche parte, in mezzo al nulla, c'è un gruppo di case di legno, collegate al mondo esterno solo da una strada sterrata. Ogni giorno, azioni ripetitive modellano la vita dei giovani russi che vivono qui. Tagliare la legna, accendere la stufa, nuotare nel fiume, fare commissioni con un cavallo e un carretto, mangiare insieme. Il linguaggio visivo impiegato dal regista tedesco Claudius Beutler corrisponde alla natura arcaica di questa vita rurale all'aperto. Le informazioni apparentemente essenziali che ci perdiamo a causa della mancanza di suono ambientale sono compensate dalla musica lirica del pianoforte, che enfatizza la natura ciclica della vita nella Siberia rurale attraverso schemi ritmici e melodie ripetute. Lavoro massacrante, pasti sani e tanto sport e gioco. Semplice e tradizionale, e vicino a Madre Natura: questa è la vita pura.
Summer in Siberia. During a few short months, the vast, bleak expanses of snow and depressing darkness make way for cheerful greenery and soft light. Somewhere, in the middle of nowhere, there is a cluster of wooden houses, linked to the outside world only by a dirt road. Everyday, repetitive actions shape the lives of the young Russians who live here. Chopping wood, lighting the stove, swimming in the river, doing errands with a horse and cart, eating together. The visual language employed by German director Claudius Beutler matches the archaic nature of this rural, outdoor life. The seemingly essential information we miss out on through the lack of ambient sound is made up for by lyrical piano music, which emphasizes the cyclical nature of life in rural Siberia through repeated rhythmic patterns and melodies. Backbreaking work, healthy meals, and lots of sports and play. Simple and traditional, and close to Mother Nature: this is the pure life.
