Abstract: Dalla fine della seconda guerra mondiale, le forze armate americane sono di stanza a Ramstein, nello stato tedesco della Renania-Palatinato. Il fascino dell'"American way of life" non solo ha incantato molti tedeschi del luogo, ma ha anche lasciato tracce visibili nella zona. Nella base aerea di Ramstein, la più grande base aerea americana su suolo straniero, si ha addirittura l'impressione di essere in una piccola America. L'installazione militare è strutturata sul principio dell'autosufficienza. Anche se il dramma della guerra in Iraq ha portato a un disincanto generale verso la superpotenza, la gente della zona non può immaginare una vita senza gli americani. La cooperazione e la coesistenza delle due nazioni rimane qui molto intensa, in particolare quando si tratta di matrimoni tedesco-americani. Il film presenta storie familiari tedesco-americane molto personali sullo sfondo della guerra in Iraq. La sfera privata si fonde con il mondo degli eventi internazionali.
Since the end of the Second World War, the American armed forces have been stationed in Ramstein, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The charm of the 'American way of life' has not only enchanted many local Germans, but has also left visible traces in the area. At the Ramstein air base, the largest American air base on foreign soil, one even has the impression of being in 'little America'. The military installation is structured on the principle of self-sufficiency. Even though the drama of the war in Iraq has led to a general disenchantment with the superpower, the people of the area cannot imagine life without the Americans. The cooperation and coexistence of the two nations remains very intense here, particularly when it comes to German-American marriages. The film presents very personal German-American family stories against the background of the war in Iraq. The private sphere merges with the world of international events.
