Abstract: Il passato di Sinan si manifesta quando visita per la prima volta la sua famiglia irachena negli Emirati Arabi, nel 2007. Il fratello di suo padre, che non poteva avere figli con la moglie tedesca Brunhilde, ha adottato Sinan subito dopo la sua nascita. Il matrimonio si ruppe dopo tre anni e Brunhilde torṇ in Germania portando Sinan con lei. Il padre adottivo e la sua famiglia biologica rimasero in Iraq. Per anni, Sinan non mostṛ grande interesse per loro o per la cultura che li caratterizzava - ma quando finalmente incontra suo padre, la sua riluttanza ad avere a che fare con le sue radici e le tradizioni arabe si dissolve.
Sinan’s past catches up with him when he visits his Iraqi family for the first time in the United Arab Emirates in 2007. The brother of his father, who could not have children with his German wife Brunhilde, adopted Sinan immediately after his birth. The marriage broke down after three years and Brunhilde fled back to Germany, taking Sinan with her. His adoptive father and biological family remained in Iraq. For years, Sinan showed no great interest in them or the culture that characterized them – but when he finally meets his father, his reluctance to deal with his roots and the Arabian traditions dissolves.
