Abstract: Molti anni fa ActionAid raggiunse un villaggio indiano nel quale, per procurarsi l'acqua, le donne del villaggio andavano ogni giorno al fiume più vicino, camminando per oltre un'ora. ActionAid individuò una falda acquifera vicino al villaggio e scavò un pozzo che, però, non venne mai utilizzato. Fu chiesto alle donne: "perché continuate ad andare sino al fiume, ora che avete il pozzo a pochi passi da casa?""Quell'ora passata a camminare - risposero - è l'unico momento della giornata in cui riusciamo a stare insieme. Parlare tra noi donne è il nostro bisogno più forte." ActionAid capì, allora, che se davvero voleva aiutare i poveri, doveva imparare prima di tutto ad ascoltarli. Questo reportage, girato in Bangladesh, mostra la relazione che l'organizzazione instaura con le comunità del Sud del mondo e, di riflesso, con tutti i suoi interlocutori.
Many years ago, ActionAid reached a village in India where the women of the village walked for over an hour every day to the nearest river to get water. ActionAid found an aquifer near the village and dug a well, but it was never used. The women were asked: "Why do you keep going to the river, now that you have the well just a few steps away from home?""That hour spent walking," they said, "is the only time of the day we can be together. Talking to each other is our strongest need." ActionAid realised, then, that if it really wanted to help the poor, it had to learn to listen to them first. This reportage, filmed in Bangladesh, shows the relationship ActionAid has with communities in the South and, by extension, with all its stakeholders.
