Abstract: Martedì 11 maggio 2005, ore 16:30. I partecipanti al seminario "Teoria dell'editing/pratica dell'editing 2" sono seduti nel cinema di via Averhoff e stanno guardando il film "One Day in September", film documentario sull'azione terroristica ai giochi olimpici di Monaco del 1972 durante la quale furono prese in ostaggio delle persone. In una breve sequenza, Timo Schierhorn individua sullo schermo un uomo molto simile a suo padre come appare in una vecchia foto di famiglia. In seguito il regista viene a sapere che suo padre, morto giovane, aveva lavorato come funzionario del BGS alle Olimpiadi. Parlando con un amico di suo padre, scopre che a suo padre era stato dato il nome di zio Luten, quando imitava suo padre. Schierhorn si cala nel ruolo di questa figura artificiale, la cui biografia immaginaria indaga sui meccanismi della memoria e cattura in immagini ciò che è stato dimenticato. Questo film semi-autobiografico combina sequenze documentarie in super 8 found-footage con scene ricostruite, che forniscono collegamenti cinematografici con i ricordi provenienti dagli home movies.
Tuesday 11 May 2005, 4:30 p.m. The participants of the seminar"Editing Theory/Editing Practice 2" are sitting in the cinema in Via Averhoff and are watching the film "One Day in September", a documentary film about the terrorist action at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich during which people were taken hostage. In a short sequence, Timo Schierhorn spots a man on the screen who looks very much like his father in an old family photo. The director later learns that his father, who died young, had worked as a BGS official at the Olympics. Talking to a friend of his father's, he finds out that his father was given the name Uncle Luten when he imitated his father. Schierhorn steps into the role of this artificial figure, whose imaginary biography investigates the mechanisms of memory and captures in images what has been forgotten. This semi-autobiographical film combines super 8 found-footage documentary sequences with reconstructed scenes, which provide cinematic links to memories from home movies.
