Abstract: La gigantesca statua del Cristo Redentore, che domina la baia di Rio, č l'icona della cittą. Come č nato questo gigantesco progetto e quali sono state le sfide tecniche che esso ha rappresentato? L'architetto Heitor da Silva Costa ha impiegato dieci anni per progettare e costruire il monumento, alto 38 metri. Ha affidato allo scultore francese Paul Landowski la realizzazione delle mani e del viso della statua a grandezza naturale. Attraverso archivi unici e testimonianze di prima mano di coloro che hanno assistito e partecipato alla costruzione monumentale, avvenuta negli anni '20, il film rivela la sfida ingegneristica dietro questa statua iconica di fama mondiale. Un viaggio musicale e culturale a Rio de Janeiro che riflette lo stile di vita dei Carioca che nutrono una simpatia unica per la statua.
The gigantic statue of Christ the Redeemer, which dominates the bay of Rio, is the icon of the city. How did this gigantic project come about and what technical challenges did it pose? It took the architect Heitor da Silva Costa ten years to design and build the 38-metre-high monument. He commissioned the French sculptor Paul Landowski to create the hands and face of the life-size statue. Through unique archives and first-hand accounts of those who witnessed and participated in the monumental construction in the 1920s, the film reveals the engineering challenge behind this iconic world-famous statue. A musical and cultural journey through Rio de Janeiro that reflects the lifestyle of the Cariocas who have a unique fondness for the statue.
