Turkish author Osman Necmi Gürmen (1927- 2015) has lived between the two poles of East and West at every moment of his life. From his childhood spent in the milieu of the Ottoman court to his youth amidst the ruins of post-war Paris, the course of Gürmen's life took him to the extremely harsh conditions of tribal life in a village in south-eastern Anatolia, where he found himself involved in a bloody struggle for power. His life was described as that of an aristocrat poised between East and West. Osman Necmi Gürmen wrote novels in French in France; he was a feudal lord at the centre of a tribal battle for power in Siverek; he was also one of the few intellectuals who founded a refuge in Bodrum for what was to become one of the most important retreats of the petty bourgeoisie in Turkey after the 1960s; and he is also an author who wrote in Turkish, drawing inspiration from his own life and from the extreme moments of his country's history. The film follows the writer on a journey through the main stations of Istanbul, Paris, Siverek and Bodrum.
