Passano gli anni, i decenni e tu continui, senza vedere, forse senza essere visto. Un edificio viene abbattuto e prima che quello nuovo venga costruito ti chiedi "cosa c'era lì?" Sei vagamente consapevole dei modelli mutevoli del quartiere e della sensazione che, dal XIX secolo, generazioni di abitanti hanno attraversato e trasformato vicoli, palazzi, scalini, negozi. Questo film si propone di esaminare: 10 isolati quadrati, passato, presente, futuro, tempo, luce, movimento, immigrazione, esclusione, gentrificazione, razzismo, storia, Cina, America, 3 lingue, 13 voci, 152 anni, 17.820 fotogrammi, 9 minuti, 54 secondi, 9 domande, 5 lezioni, Chinatown.
In the place where you live, you walk down the same street 50, 100, 10,000 times, each time your perception is fragmented, without ever grasping that place in its entirety. Years pass, decades pass and you go on, without seeing, perhaps without being seen. A building is torn down and before the new one is built you ask yourself "what was there?" You are vaguely aware of the changing patterns of the neighbourhood and the feeling that, since the 19th century, generations of inhabitants have passed through and transformed alleys, buildings, steps, shops.
