Abstract: In "51st, Birch Street" (2005) il regista Doug Block ha scoperto di non conoscere quasi per niente i proprio genitori: tre mesi dopo la morte di sua madre, suo padre si è risposato con la sua ex segretaria ed è diventato improvvisamente una persona totalmente diversa (cioè felice). "The Kids Grow Up" rivisita questa storia, ma questa volta è Doug Block a rivestire il ruolo del padre. C'è sempre stata una distanza tra il regista e suo padre, mentre con sua figlia, Lucy, è stato soprattutto in ottimi rapporti, in confidenza e in amicizia - come testimonia la mole di filmati casalinghi che ha girato su di lei. Ora che Lucy è in procinto di partire per il college, Block comincia ad assaporare la scoraggiante prospettiva di non averla più intorno. Il film racconta il loro ultimo anno trascorso sotto lo stesso tetto.
In "51st, Birch Street" (2005), filmmaker Doug Block discovered that he hardly knew his parents at all: three months after his mother's death, his father remarried his former secretary and suddenly became a totally different (i.e. happy) person. "The Kids Grow Up" revisits this story, but this time it is Doug Block who plays the role of the father. There has always been a distance between the director and his father, while with his daughter, Lucy, he has mostly been on very good terms, in confidence and in friendship - as evidenced by the amount of home movies he has shot of her. Now that Lucy is about to leave for college, Block begins to relish the daunting prospect of no longer having her around. The film chronicles their last year spent under the same roof.
