Abstract: Nell'aprile 2004 a Rowan Isaacson, un bambino di due anni, è stato diagnosticato l'autismo. Il bambino aveva improvvisamente smesso di pronunciare le poche parole che aveva imparato e aveva iniziato a sbattere le braccia e a balbettare, ad allineare ossessivamente i giocattoli, a ritirarsi in se stesso per ore e ore, ad evitare il contatto visivo, a urlare in modo incontrollabile. Mentre cercava delle soluzioni, Rupert, il padre di Rowan, si imbatté in un fatto straordinario. Notò che la sua cavalla Betsy si mostrava molto mansueta con il bambino quando lo vedeva vagare nel pascolo destinato ai cavalli. Rupert fece salire Rowan a cavallo. Immediatamente lo stimming (autostimolazione) cessò, sostituito da una calma insolita, persino beata. Dal giorno successivo, Rupert iniziò con regolarità a fare passeggiate a cavallo portando Rowan con sé. Non solo le grida e i sussulti cessarono, ma Rowan riprese a parlare. In seguito gli Isaacson hanno fatto visitare Rowan da guaritori e sciamani di tutto il mondo alla ricerca di una forma alternativa di terapia.
In April 2004, Rowan Isaacson, a two-year-old boy, was diagnosed with autism. The child had suddenly stopped speaking the few words he had learned and began flapping his arms and stuttering, obsessively lining up toys, withdrawing into himself for hours at a time, avoiding eye contact, and screaming uncontrollably. While looking for solutions, Rupert, Rowan's father, came across something extraordinary. He noticed that his mare Betsy was very gentle with the child when he saw her wandering in the horse pasture. Rupert put Rowan on the horse. Immediately the 'stimming' (self-stimulation) ceased, replaced by an unusual, even blissful calm. From the next day on, Rupert began regular horse-riding, taking Rowan with him. Not only did the screaming and shaking cease, but Rowan began to speak again. The Isaacsons subsequently had Rowan visited by healers and shamans from all over the world in search of an alternative form of therapy.
