Abstract: Sirene, urla, risate, canti, baratti: questi sono i suoni che entrano nelle stanze dei vecchi alberghi dimenticati di Downtown Los Angeles. Le storie dei loro abitanti ci raccontano di vite vissute ai margini. Alcuni rimangono nella zona per pochi mesi, altri ci vivono da 40 anni. Anche la regista Alina Skrzeszewska ha vissuto in un di questi hotel per un anno e mezzo, ovvero per tutto il tempo che le è servito per girare "Songs from the Nickel". Il risultato è un ritratto sorprendentemente intimo delle persone che vivono in questa comunità largamente invisibile; mentre la gentrificazione continua ad avanzare.
Sirens, screams, laughter, singing, bartering: these are the sounds that enter the rooms of the old, forgotten hotels of Downtown Los Angeles. The stories of their residents tell of lives lived on the edge. Some stay in the area for only a few months, others have lived there for 40 years. Director Alina Skrzeszewska also lived in one of these hotels for a year and a half, as long as it took her to shoot "Songs from the Nickel". The result is a surprisingly intimate portrait of the people who live in this largely invisible community; while gentrification continues to advance.
