Abstract: I due registi seguono Fetim Sellami, un rifugiato Saharawi, in Nord Africa dove si propone di incontrare sua madre. Madre e figlio sono stati separati quando Sellami era piccolo. Ma la riunione, sponsorizzata dall'ONU, rivela un segreto che oscuro che i registi non avrebbero mai immaginato. I Saharawi iniziano a parlare di un argomento proibito: la loro schiavitù. I registi raccontano i momenti di terrore vissuti, la percezione di un pericolo incombente, le grandi difficoltà per far passare quello che hanno filmato attraverso le frontiere. Alcuni contestatori hanno manifestato la veridicità del film. Il Polisario, il movimento che gestisce il campo, ha spedito Sellami fino al Sydney Film Festival per negare di essere mai stato schiavo e per dichiarare pubblicamente che la schiavitù non esiste nei campi ONU.
The two directors follow Fetim Sellami, a Saharawi refugee, to North Africa where he sets out to meet his mother. Mother and son were separated when Sellami was a child. But the meeting, sponsored by the UN, reveals a dark secret the filmmakers never imagined. The Saharawis begin to talk about a forbidden subject: their slavery. The filmmakers recount the moments of terror they experienced, the perception of impending danger, the great difficulties in getting what they filmed across borders. Some protesters questioned the veracity of the film. Polisario, the movement that runs the camp, sent Sellami all the way to the Sydney Film Festival to deny ever having been a slave and to publicly declare that slavery does not exist in the UN camps.
