Abstract: Il film fornisce un affascinante resoconto di un uomo cresciuto in circostanze apparentemente idilliache in una famiglia tedesca molto religiosa. Non prendendo mai coscienza che il suo aspetto è diverso da quello dei fratelli con tratti somatici insoliti per un tedesco, il giovane arriva alla ventina prima che suo padre, durante una discussione, riveli la presunta verità sull'identità del figlio in una discussione. La famiglia emerge allora come una struttura fondata sull'ipocrisia, i cui membri condividono conoscenze tenute segrete. Passano altri anni prima che il protagonista trovi il coraggio di tornare al suo villaggio d'infanzia, di parlare con la famiglia e, successivamente, partire per il Libano, dove incontrerà un estraneo dall'aspetto estremamente familiare.
The film provides a fascinating account of a man growing up in seemingly idyllic circumstances in a very religious German family. Never realising that his appearance is different from that of his siblings with unusual somatic features for a German, the young man reaches his twenties before his father reveals the supposed truth about his son's identity during an argument. The family then emerges as a structure founded on hypocrisy, whose members share knowledge that is kept secret. More years pass before the protagonist finds the courage to return to his childhood village, talk to his family and then leave for Lebanon, where he will meet a stranger who looks extremely familiar.
