Abstract: Come si affronta la notizia che tuo figlio ha un handicap? La notizia ti colpisce come un'onda anomala, ti gela il sangue. Tutti i tuoi sogni si infrangono di fronte a questa tragedia che si impossessa della tua vita. Poi, in maniera molto rapida, questi sentimenti dettati dall'impulso lasciano il posto ad altri, più meditati. Ho filmato la vita accanto a mio figlio giorno dopo giorno e ho girato con un gruppo di danza durante un arco di tempo di due anni. Sugli aerei, in caso di emergenza, consigliano ai genitori di indossare per primi la maschera d'ossigeno e poi occuparsi dei figli. Sembra un gesto egoista, ma in realtà è quello che garantisce maggiori possibilità ad entrambi. Se volevo aiutare mio figlio, dovevo prima prendermi cura di me stessa.
How do you deal with the news that your child has a disability? The news hits you like a tidal wave, freezing your blood. All your dreams are shattered in the face of this tragedy taking over your life. Then, very quickly, these feelings dictated by impulse give way to other, more thoughtful ones. I filmed life with my son day after day and I filmed with a dance group over a two-year period. On planes, in an emergency, they advise parents to put on their oxygen mask first and then take care of their children. It sounds selfish, but it is actually the one that gives both of us a better chance. If I wanted to help my child, I had to take care of myself first.
