Photographer Gerard Petrus Fieret (1924-2009) managed to antagonise the entire establishment with his very personal, grainy female portraits from the late 1960s. In his rat-infested studio, he photographed his models half or fully undressed, as well as himself, his cat and the many sick pigeons that lived with him. His photographic work has a unique quality that has now been recognised by collectors and museums. His international success made the prices of his works skyrocket, a development from which Fieret himself did not benefit. He died in 2009 at the age of 85. This documentary was shot during the last two years of his life. The video camera captures Gerard Fieret alternately lucid and confused, aggressive and gentle, stubborn and cooperative, blaming everything and everyone and lamenting his physical decline. His former models recall often bizarre posing sessions, and photography experts and art dealers talk about the unique body of work of this versatile artist. At the end of his life an important discovery was made: negatives thought to be lost were discovered in the artist's country estate.
