Abstract: Questo ritratto di Juan Octavio Prenz (1932 - 2019) prende spunto dall’analisi dell’opera "La favola di Innocenzo Onesto, il decapitato" per approfondire, insieme al suo autore, gli aspetti meno conosciuti ed i retroscena, al fine di analizzare lo stile cinico e poetico del romanzo. L’opera racconta di una tranquilla città del Sudamerica dove viene imposto il divieto alla risata, principale nemico del perbenismo piccolo-borghese. Per dare l’esempio, il buon Innocenzo si fa decapitare e innestare sul corpo la testa di un mostro, che dovrà divenire il nuovo modello etico ed estetico a cui ispirarsi; ma il Potere non ha previsto che anche nella faccia inespressiva di un mostro, può nascere un ghigno o una smorfia, se non un riso, e Innocenzo riscoprirà a poco a poco la sua umanità, anche se ciò significa l’infamia e la morte. Il film propone, in un intrecciarsi di immagini e atmosfere, la genesi del romanzo, come in un gigantesco puzzle di emozioni e sfaccettature, spaziando nella vita reale dell’autore per poco a poco entrare nel suo mondo.
This portrait of Juan Octavio Prenz (1932 - 2019) takes as its starting point the analysis of the work "The Tale of Innocent Honest, the Decapitated" to explore, together with its author, the lesser known aspects and background, in order to analyse the cynical and poetic style of the novel. The work tells the story of a quiet town in South America where a ban on laughter is imposed, the main enemy of petty-bourgeois respectability. To set an example, the good Innocent has himself decapitated and the head of a monster grafted onto his body, which is to become the new ethical and aesthetic model from which to draw inspiration. But Power has not foreseen that even in the expressionless face of a monster, a grin or a grimace can be born, if not laughter, and Innocent will gradually rediscover his humanity, even if this means infamy and death. In an interweaving of images and atmospheres, the film presents the genesis of the novel, like a gigantic puzzle of emotions and facets, ranging through the author's real life to gradually enter his world.
