Abstract: Un film-omaggio per i quaranta anni di attività del GREC (Groupe de Recherche et d’Essai Cinématographique), fondato tra gli altri da Jean Rouch e Pierre Braunberger, si trasforma in un particolare e personale saggio sul cinema, una riflessione visiva e sonora non tanto sul dispositivo-sguardo più potente del Novecento, quanto sulla sua memoria e sulla sua dispersione. Sotto la forma del saggio cinematografico, Jean-Claude Taki lavora, rievoca e riprende le potenzialità dell’immagine, del montaggio, del suono, della parola, (sono evocati, direttamente o indirettamente, nomi come Deleuze, Daney, Virilio), non per congelarli in una celebrazione cerimoniale, ma per rimettere in gioco quella capacità che il cinema ha sempre avuto di interrogare il mondo e lo sguardo che convoca a sé. L’omaggio alle attività del GREC diventa allora qualcosa d’altro, l’intensa interrogazione del cinema, della sua potenza e delle tracce che ancora lascia accanto a sé. “Ho pensato che sarebbe stato interessante far soffiare di nuovo quel vento di libertà e di desiderio creatore, ora che praticamente tutti giocano il gioco del sistema. Jean Rouch ha ben definito lo spirito del GREC: «Il GREC deve permettere il rischio dello scacco»”. (J.-C. Taki)
A cinematic tribute for the 40th anniversary of the GREC – Groupe de Recherche et d’Essai Cinématographique, founded by Jean Rouch and Pierre Braunberger among others. A peculiar and personal visual essay about film, and a reflection in sight and sound regarding not only the most powerful device and gaze of the 20th century, but also its legacy and its dispersal. In the form of a film essay, Jean-Claude Taki elaborates, reevokes and takes up again the potential of picture, editing, sound, and speech (either directly or indirectly, the names of Deleuze, Daney, and Virilio are also evoked). These are not frozen in a celebrative ritual, but are aimed to kick-start film’s long-standing capacity of questioning the world and the gaze upon it. The tribute to the GREC’s activities becomes something else, such as an intense exploration of cinema, its powerfulness and the traces it still leaves behind. “I thought it would be interesting to let the wind of freedom and creative desire blow again, now that everyone plays by the system’s rules. Jean Rouch well defined the GREC’s spirit: «The GREC should allow for the risk of losing.»” (Jean-Claude Taki)
