Abstract: Ritratto di uno studioso islamico appassionato e progressista: Nasr Hamed Abu Zayd. Condannato per apostasia in Egitto per i suoi audaci scritti sulle spiegazioni razionali del Corano, Abu Zayd fu costretto a divorziare da sua moglie, Ibtihal Younes, quando il loro matrimonio musulmano venne annullato. Questo caso, unico nel suo genere, fece scalpore nei media e lo costrinse all'esilio. Abu Zayd e sua moglie vivono ora a Leiden, nei Paesi Bassi, dove è professore di studi arabi e islamici. Portrait of a passionate and progressive Islamic scholar: Nasr Hamed Abu Zayd. Convicted of apostasy in Egypt for his bold writings on rational explanations of the Koran, Abu Zayd was forced to divorce his wife, Ibtihal Younes, when their Muslim marriage was annulled. This unique case caused a sensation in the media and forced him into exile. Abu Zayd and his wife now live in Leiden, the Netherlands, where he is a professor of Arabic and Islamic studies. Filmmaker Mohammad Ali Atassi followed Abu Zayd with his video camera for over six years to various locations, including Beirut, to show a scholar in action, confronting the public and the media and talking to him about key issues at work in Arab-Muslim societies.
