Abstract: Una comune di contadini in Siberia, un gruppo di squatter in Inghilterra, un gruppo di sole donne in Brasile. Questi mondi paralleli ruotano attorno a tre figure differenti con una cosa in comune: la convinzione di essere la reincarnazione di Gesù Cristo. Vissarion, carismatico ed introverso, impartisce insegnamenti basati sulla povertà. INRI Cristo, un uomo semplice ma educato, è un fenomeno mediatico in Brasile che ha costruito un sicuro rifugio per le sue seguaci. David Shayler, un ex agente dei servizi segreti britannici, è diventato una singolare guida spirituale che vive in una comune con giovani «squatter» dediti a combattere il capitalismo. Seguendo questi tre leader religiosi e la quotidianità dei loro discepoli, "I Am Jesus" si interroga sul bisogno di avere una guida spirituale, sulla necessità di un’appartenenza e l’urgenza di avere risposte sul senso della condizione umana. “Quello che più ci ha colpito è stato che, per i seguaci, la ricerca di uno stile di vita «giusto» e della loro felicità personale è più forte rispetto all’opinione delle altre persone. Anche se abbiamo fatto difficoltà a crederci, abbiamo notato che molti sono in qualche modo molto più soddisfatti rispetto alla media delle persone che vivono intorno a noi. Non abbiamo potuto fare a meno di chiederci cos’è che sembra mancare a così tante persone oggi e perché sia così difficile per noi raggiungere la serenità senza dover trovare il nostro Gesù personale”. A community of farmers in Siberia, a group of squatters in England, a group of single women in Brazil. These parallel worlds revolve around three different figures with one thing in common: the belief that they’re Jesus Christ. Vissarion, charismatic and introverted, imparts lessons on poverty. INRI Cristo, a simple but educated man, is a media phenomenon in Brazil, who has built a refuge for his followers. David Shayler, an ex-secret service agent, has become a unique spiritual guide in a young squatter community dedicated to fighting capitalism. Following these three religious leaders and the lives of their disciples, I Am Jesus examines the need for spiritual guidance, the need to belong, and the demand for answers to the meaning of the human condition. “What impressed us most was that, for the followers, the pursuit for the «right» kind of life and their own personal happiness was stronger than what other people might think of them. Even if sometimes we found it hard to believe, we saw that most people were somehow more fulfilled than the people in our usual surroundings. We couldn’t help but ask ourselves what it is that so many people today seem to be missing and why it is so hard for us to reach contentment without having to find our own personal Jesus”. (V.
