Abstract: Migliaia di fortini e bunker giacciono ancora sulle spiagge, le scogliere e lungo le coste della Normandia, dal Pas-de-Calais alla Gironda, da Dunkerque a Biarritz. Il Vallo Atlantico contiene un segreto ben custodito. Un segreto che nessuno ha voluto conoscere per quasi 70 anni. Questo gigantesco muro fu costruito su ordine di Hitler. Ma non è stato costruito dai tedeschi, come si portati a credere. Ha dato vita e persino prosperità a molte imprese francesi, ha dato lavoro, volontario o forzato, a quasi 300.000 persone. Dal 1942 al 1944, il cantiere del Vallo Atlantico fu il polmone economico della Francia di Vichy, l'operazione finanziariamente più importante e più compromettente dell'occupazione.
Thousands of forts and bunkers still lie on the beaches, cliffs and along the coasts of Normandy, from the Pas-de-Calais to the Gironde, from Dunkirk to Biarritz. The Atlantic Wall contains a well-kept secret. A secret that no one wanted to know for almost 70 years. This gigantic wall was built on Hitler's orders. But it was not built by Germans, as one is led to believe. It gave life and even prosperity to many French companies, it gave work, voluntary or forced, to almost 300,000 people. From 1942 to 1944, the Atlantic Wall construction site was the economic lung of Vichy France, the most financially important and most compromising operation of the occupation.
