Abstract: Il ciclista svizzero Hugo Koblet fu il primo straniero a vincere il Giro d'Italia, nel 1950. Figlio di un panettiere del quartiere popolare di Zurigo colse il mondo di sorpresa con il suo straordinario successo. Le donne adorano il fascino bello e mondano, gli appassionati di ciclismo lo venerano per la sua guida elegante, la stampa si nutre volentieri delle sue numerose relazioni. L'anno seguente vince anche il Tour de France. La sua rapida ascesa viene bruscamente interrotta dall'abuso di doping che causò danni irreparabili alla sua salute. Troppo presto il ricco donnaiolo si trovò a corto di soldi e si trovava sull'orlo del divorzio quando si schiantò con la sua auto sportiva contro un albero. Resta da chiarire se sia stato un incidente o un suicidio.
Swiss cyclist Hugo Koblet was the first foreigner to win the Giro d'Italia in 1950. As the son of a baker from the working-class district of Zurich, he took the world by surprise with his extraordinary success. Women adored his handsome and worldly charm, cycling fans worshipped him for his elegant riding, the press happily fed on his many reports. The following year he also won the Tour de France. His rapid rise was abruptly interrupted by doping abuse that caused irreparable damage to his health. All too soon the rich womanizer found himself short of money and on the brink of divorce when he crashed his sports car into a tree. Whether it was an accident or suicide remains to be clarified.
