Abstract: Tra film di famiglia e reportage non professionali, i cineasti amatoriali francesi presenti in Africa tra il 1955 e il 1965 hanno registrato con le loro macchine da presa portatili la storica svolta delle indipendenze africane. Dalle visite del generale De Gaulle a Brazaville e Tananarive (nel 1958 e nel 1959) alle celebrazioni dell'indipendenza nel 1960, hanno filmato la nascita di nuove nazioni. Filmate a beneficio esclusivo di amici e parenti, queste immagini sono diventate oggi fonti preziose per alimentare la memoria individuale e collettiva.
Between family films and non-professional reportage, French amateur filmmakers in Africa between 1955 and 1965 recorded the historic turning point of African independence with their hand-held cameras. From General De Gaulle's visits to Brazaville and Tananarive (in 1958 and 1959) to the independence celebrations in 1960, they filmed the birth of new nations. Filmed for the exclusive benefit of friends and relatives, these images have now become valuable sources to nurture individual and collective memory.
