Abstract: Quando avevano 20 anni furono loro prospettate due opzioni: sottomettersi a un matrimonio combinato o fare un voto di nubilato per tutta la vita. Lian, Yi e Fen hanno preferito la seconda opzione. Si sono guadagnate da vivere nelle fabbriche di filatura e, arrivate all'età della pensione, si sono trasferite in una casa di riposo. Ora, a 90 anni, raccontano le loro storie con orgoglio e solitudine, ma senza rimpianti: coś era a quei tempi.
When they were in their twenties, they were presented with two options: submit to an arranged marriage or take a lifelong vow of celibacy. Lian, Yi and Fen preferred the second option. They earned their living in spinning factories and, when they reached retirement age, moved into a retirement home. Now in their 90s, they tell their stories with pride and loneliness, but no regrets: that's how it was in those days.
