Abstract: A partire da brani scelti dei diari di sua madre, il regista racconta la storia di un lutto, soffermandosi sui luoghi amati dalla madre e raccogliendo le testimonianze commoventi e talvolta dolorose dei suoi parenti: sua moglie, i suoi figli, suo padre, i cugini, un rabbino e un Pastore, amici di famiglia. Il racconto è ancorato a un unico luogo, il piccolo cimitero che accoglie una sola tomba, su una stretta striscia di terra, nel cuore di una valle della Cevenne. "È la storia di un lutto, di una separazione, di un cammino che conduce a una possibile rinascita. La storia di una donna – mia madre – e del nostro rapporto nel momento estremo in cui lei ha cessato di vivere e io ho cominciato a esistere" (S. Lalou).
Starting with selected excerpts from his mother's diaries, the director tells the story of mourning, dwelling on the places his mother loved and collecting the moving and sometimes painful testimonies of her relatives: his wife, children, father, cousins, a rabbi and a pastor, family friends. The story is anchored to a single place, the small cemetery that holds a single grave, on a narrow strip of land, in the heart of a valley in the Cevenne. "It is the story of a bereavement, of a separation, of a journey that leads to a possible rebirth. The story of a woman - my mother - and of our relationship at the extreme moment when she ceased to live and I began to exist" (S. Lalou).
