Abstract: Il padre di Dumisani, morto nel 1997, era allenatore di una squadra di calcio, proprietario di una compagnia di taxi, musicista e varie altre cose; nel mentre ha trovato tempo di avere 52 figli da 11 donne. Dumisani ricostruisce la figura paterna incontrando alcuni dei fratellastri, spesso mai visti prima. La struttura familiare africana, la diversa concezione del padre e della madre, il rapporto tra fratelli e sorelle vengono resi in maniera molto efficace, con uno sguardo interno e personale. Dumisani ha visto suo padre 7 volte il 16 anni: una storia normale in Sudafrica, dove, sotto l’apartheid, gli uomini erano costretti a spostarsi continuamente per cercare lavoro.
Dumisani’s father, who died in 1997, trained a soccer team, owned a taxi company, played music, anda had a host of other interests. In the meantime, he also found time to father 52 children with 11 different women. Dumisani reconstructs the figure of his father and meets some of his family, often for the first time. The make-up of the South African family, the different perception of the father and mother figures, the relationship among brothers and sisters are very well rendered with an intimate, inward-looking glance. Dumisani saw his father 7 times in 16 years: quite normal for South Africa where, under apartheid, men were obliged to be continually on the move searching for work.
