Abstract: David Sieveking è un giovane regista tedesco, appassionato del cinema di David Lynch. Per conoscere il suo idolo vola negli Stati Uniti in occasione di una serie di conferenze sulla meditazione trascendentale, che Lynch pratica da decenni e di cui è un fervente sostenitore. È l’inizio di un percorso di scoperta che porterà il giovane regista a viaggiare in tutto il mondo per cercare di scoprire cosa c’è dietro la potente organizzazione mondiale nata dopo la morte del Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, il maestro spirituale, tra gli altri, dei Beatles, di Donovan e di molti altri artisti degli anni sessanta e settanta. Il viaggio è un percorso che porta il giovane David verso incredibili scoperte ed alla consapevolezza che, dietro l’organizzazione di cui Lynch è uno dei più famosi testimonial, si agita un mondo oscuro e inquietante... Quello di "David Wants To Fly"è l’esempio di un cinema che si pensa come percorso soggettivo, come autoritratto e allo stesso tempo narrazione del mondo. È lo sguardo del regista che diventa personaggio, è il mondo che diventa teatro.
David Sieveking is a young German filmmaker who has a passion for David Lynch’s cinema. He wants to meet his hero and flies to the US on the occasion of a set of conferences about transcendental meditation – a practice Lynch has been doing and supporting for decades. Thus begins a path of discovery for the young filmmaker, who will travel across the world trying to find out what lies behind the powerful global organization established after the death of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the personal guru of so many artists in the 60’s and 70’s, including the Beatles and Donovan. The journey will lead young David to incredible discoveries, including the awareness that behind the organization – which Lynch is one of the most famous testimonials of – lies an obscure and disturbing world... David Wants To Fly is an example of film-making conceived as a personal journey, i.e. self-portrait and objective narrative of the world at the same time. The filmmaker’s gaze becomes a character, and the world a stage.
