Abstract: “In origine il progetto era concepito sotto forma di rilievi topografici da una parte e dall’altra del muro. Questi rilievi dovevano ricostituire la storia politica del Sahara occidentale. Su questa base ho fatto dei sopralluoghi nei territori sotto l’occupazione marocchina, nei campi rifugiati in Algeria e nelle zone liberate dal Polisario”. (P.Y. Vandeweerd) Pierre Yves Vandeweerd prosegue il suo tributo al popolo saharawi. Lo fa con un film in Super 8 che inizia immerso nel vento da cui emerge un ricordo tratto da Erodoto e finisce con le registrazioni telefoniche delle donne saharawi resistenti. "Territoire perdu"è un film che assomiglia ad una nave del deserto, naviga senza punti di riferimento e tuttavia, un po’ alla volta, il suo centro di gravità viene a definirsi nella maniera più precisa. “Spesso mi si domanda perché i Saharawi lottano per un territorio vuoto. Al di là degli ovvi motivi economici, io ho sempre pensato che le persone si battono in nome dell’attaccamento verso un territorio. La maggior parte di loro fino all’esilio non era abituata a confrontarsi con le frontiere. Nel film ho voluto dar conto di questo pensiero nomade che nasce dalla vita in movimento, da un quotidiano totalmente iscritto in un territorio e nella sua natura.” (P.Y. Vandeweerd)
“The project was originally thought of as a series of land surveys on both sides of the wall. Such surveys should have helped reconstruct the political history of Western Sahara. On these grounds I went to visit the areas under Moroccan occupation, the refugee camps in Algeria and the territories liberated by the Polisario Front.” (P.Y. Vandeweerd) Pierre-Yves Vandeweer continues his tribute to the Sahrawi people. He does so with a film, shot on Super 8, which begins immersed in the wind, from which memories taken from Herodotus emerge, and which ends with the phone recordings of women of the Sahrawi resistance. Territoire perdu is a film which resembles a ship in the desert. It sails without any point of reference and yet, its center of gravity is slowly defined in the most accurate way. “I am often asked why the Sahrawis fight for an empty territory. Besides the obvious economic reasons, I have always thought that people fight in the name of their attachment to a territory. Most of them were not used to the idea of frontiers until exile. In this film I wanted to show this nomadic way of thinking, which stems from life on the move and from the total immersion in a territory and in its nature.” (P.Y. Vandeweerd)
