1. Immigrazione.

Abstract: Sulla terraferma indiana arrivano via mare i rifugiati tamil provenienti dallo Sri Lanka. Č un flusso incessante di persone, di disperati che hanno perduto le loro terre e i loro dči e sono in rotta verso un futuro incerto e con speranze di ritorno in patria assai ridotte. Dhanushkodi, la cittą di confine tra India e Sri Lanka, č il punto di maggior raccolta di questi disperati. Manimekalai, il regista, Munusamy, il pescatore, Rosemary, l'assistente sociale del "Jesuit Christian Refugee Services", cercano di mantenere la sanitą mentale in questa folle confusione. Le loro interazioni con i rifugiati, morti o vivi, le loro scaramucce con lo Stato indiano e lo Sri Lanka, le loro vite personali invase da eventi esterni, formano il nucleo della narrazione. Nel corso del film Manimekalai sarą costretto dallo Stato a tornare nei ranghi. Munusamy verrą ucciso e a Rosemary non resta che rivolgersi al suo Dio, lo stesso Dio che ha diviso il Mar Rosso per salvare il suo popolo, in fuga dall'annientamento.
On the Indian mainland, Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka arrive by sea. It is an unceasing stream of people, of desperate people who have lost their lands and their gods and are on their way to an uncertain future with very little hope of returning home. Dhanushkodi, the border town between India and Sri Lanka, is the major gathering point for these desperate people. Manimekalai, the filmmaker, Munusamy, the fisherman, Rosemary, the social worker of the Jesuit Christian Refugee Services, try to maintain sanity in this mad confusion. Their interactions with refugees, dead or alive, their skirmishes with the Indian state and Sri Lanka, their personal lives invaded by external events, form the core of the narrative. In the course of the film, Manimekalai is forced back into the ranks by the state. Munusamy will be killed and Rosemary has no choice but to turn to her God, the same God who parted the Red Sea to save her people, fleeing annihilation.
