Abstract: Narrato dal cantante baritono di fama mondiale Thomas Hampson, questo film conduce lo spettatore in un'epoca in cui un compositore era considerato un profeta capace di rivelare verità non accessibili agli altri. Il film esplora come il ventisettenne Gustav Mahler abbia affrontato le domande più difficili e profonde della vita iniziando la composizione della monumentale sinfonia "Resurrezione". Seguiamo i profondi cambiamenti della sua vita durante i 6 anni che gli ci vollero per completare la sinfonia, e proviamo a capire il nuovo linguaggio musicale che sviluppò per tradurre la filosofia in musica. Una performance della sinfonia eseguita dalla New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra e dalla Metropolitan Opera Orchestra diretta da Neeme Jarvi.
Narrated by world-renowned baritone singer Thomas Hampson, this film takes the viewer to a time when a composer was considered a prophet capable of revealing truths not accessible to others. The film explores how the 27-year-old Gustav Mahler faced life's most difficult and profound questions as he began the composition of the monumental 'Resurrection' Symphony. We follow the profound changes in his life during the six years it took him to complete the symphony, and try to understand the new musical language he developed to translate philosophy into music. A performance of the symphony performed by the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra conducted by Neeme Jarvi.
