Abstract: "Ad Algeri, la Kasbah, luogo oscuro e leggendario, ancora oggi conserva il proprio mito. Non ho mai smesso di vederla attraverso gli occhi di Pepè le Mokò e di Alì, ovvero, il bandito che sogna la propria liberazione dalla Kasbah stessa, che lo protegge, ma di cui si sente prigioniero, e il ribelle che sogna invece, un giorno, la liberazione del popolo algerino. Entrambi perdenti, essi sono eroi di un immaginario urbano che diventa reale attraverso il corpo della città, della sua antica anima, la kasbah, sedimento di memorie collettive e di vite individuali. Ho provato ad attraversarla tutta, dal mare alla collina, da Place des martyres alla Cittadella, senza mai dimenticare il loro sguardo, mostrando analogie e trasformazioni, frammenti di grande vitalità urbana e luoghi di incommensurabile decadenza e degrado" (M.
