Abstract: Le regioni sud-orientali del Marocco sono famose per le ricorrenti piogge di meteoriti. Il deserto è costellato dai frammenti degli oggetti caduti dal cielo. Nel silenzio sospeso di queste terre aride, Mohamed, un nomade cinquantenne, vaga con passo calmo e lento alla ricerca delle pietre celesti. I ritrovamenti potrebbero contribuire a migliorare le durissime condizioni di vita della sua famiglia che vive in una piccola tenda in una zona remota del deserto. Abderrahmane, invece, è un noto scienziato che attraverso lo studio degli stessi meteoriti porta avanti le proprie ricerche sulla nascita del nostro pianeta. “Fragments from Heaven” è un’indagine metafisica sulle origini della vita. L’esistenza erratica dei nomadi del deserto e la ricerca continua degli studiosi si intersecano in un unico e inarrestabile cammino verso un assoluto irraggiungibile. Adnane Baraka dà vita a un’opera che trascende le distinzioni fra finzione e documentario e ci porta in un viaggio ai confini dell’umano: dai passi scanditi nelle voci dei nomadi, perse nell’infinità del deserto, fino ad elevarsi al cielo, in un finale di grande suggestione e potenza visiva.
The south-eastern regions of Morocco are famous for the recurring meteor showers. The desert is scattered with fragments of these objects fallen from the sky. In the bated silence of these arid lands, a fifty-year-old nomad, Mohamed, wanders at a calm, slow pace in search of the sky stones. If he finds them, he could help improve the harsh living conditions of his family, who inhabit a little tent in a remote area of the desert. The other character is Abderrahmane, a well-known scientist who studies these meteorites along with the origins of our planet. “Fragments from Heaven” is a meta-physical inquiry into the origins of life. The wandering lifestyle of the desert nomads and the ongoing research of scholars are interwoven in a single, unstoppable journey bound to an unattainable absolute. Adnane Baraka brings to life a work that transcends the distinctions between fiction and documentary, taking us to the boundaries of the human: from the nomads’ voices that accompany the rhythm of the walk, lost in the infinity of the desert, they elevate up to the sky, with a powerfully suggestive and visually strong ending.
